Eglinton Avenue Grade Separation
City of Mississauga
This Capital Works project undertaken for The City of Mississauga in 1991 and 1992 involved the reconstruction of Eglinton Avenue from Inverness Avenue to Creditview Road and the grade separation of road and rail traffic by building a rail overpass structure.
Eglinton Avenue is a six lane arterial road with a concrete road base, asphalt pavement, curbs, sidewalks and a centre island. Con-Drain was responsible for the complete reconstruction of the road to these standards including provision of traffic signals at two intersections, street lighting and storm and sanitary sewers. An existing trunk watermain had to be maintained in service.
At this location, the CP Rail main Toronto - Cambridge line crosses Eglinton Avenue. Con-Drain installed a rail diversion to allow to the construction of the rail bridge that provided the grade separation. Following completion of the bridge, the twin tracks were relayed in their original alignment over the new bridge.
Subcontractors involved were Con-Strada Construction, Toronto Zenith Contracting, Pacific Northern Rail and Fellmore Electric. The project was valued at $4.5 million and was completed on time.
